Why a member's available balance is lower than their savings
Who can do this Any officer
Steps
- Open the member’s profile. The Summary shows Available now, Can be pledged and Counts toward borrowing.
- Select How is this worked out? to see every hold.
- Open the Accounts tab: each account lists what is holding it: non-withdrawable savings, guarantees given, notice periods or early-withdrawal penalties.
What happens next
For example, a member with ₦512,000.00 saved may have only ₦40,000.00 available today: their BOSA savings are non-withdrawable and ₦180,000.00 is held by guarantees, and their target savings need 30 days’ notice.
Common problems
"Non-withdrawable deposits can only be released when you leave the union"
BOSA savings are released only on exit. The member can withdraw from withdrawable accounts instead.
"Only 232,000.00 of your deposits is free; the rest secures loans you have guaranteed"
Ask the borrower to find a substitute guarantor, or wait until the guaranteed loan is repaid.
